Submit Your Squarespace Sitemap to Google Console

A site map tells search engines about the structure of the URLs and image metadata on your site. It is an important piece of information to provide search engines for Search Engine Optimization (or SEO).

The good news is you do not need to build this as Squarespace has already done this for you. All you need to do is share it with Google through Google Search Console.

Google Search Console is also a great way to keep an eye on your site to make sure there are no issues being flagged by google such as mobile issues. It can also tell you what key search terms your site is ranking for.

In this video, I show you how to create a Google Search Console account and how to submit a sitemap.

Squarespace Sitemap

First things first, your squarespace sitemap exists at http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml. Just replace example.com with your own domain name.

Google Search Console

To create a Google Search Console Account go to https://search.google.com/search-console/about and click Start now and sign in with your Google Account. The easiest way to verify your Squarespace Account with Google Search Console is to go to your Squarespace Website. Click on Analytics > Search Keywords and then select Connect.

You can also add a property in Google Search Console by providing your domain name. However, then you need to add a TXT record to your domains DNS.

Submit Your Sitemap

Once you site is verified, you can go to Google Search Console and select sitemaps. Then paste the url to your sitemap and click Submit.

Congratulations

That’s it! Your sitemap has now been submitted to Google Search Console. Make sure to re-submit your sitemap anytime you make any major changes to your site.
