Encyclopedia of Code
For Squarespace Website Designers who want to charge more and work less... all without writing a single line of code from scratch.
Right now, I imagine that your Squarespace Design process goes a little something like this…
Yeay, another client contract signed!
You build the first draft of your client's website using the Squarespace Editor. You get a little frustrated with how limiting the editor can be and have to sacrifice some of the effects you had planned on because it just doesn't seem to be possible. At this point it looks like every other Squarespace website, so you start looking around to see how you could give it a little “wow”.
How did they do that?
The client sends you some particular things they’ve seen on other sites. You feel your stomach drop because you have no idea how to achieved that effect. I mean, you’re not even sure what search terms to use to find out.
You start Googling and make your way through the YouTube rabbit hole. You get 75 results, but none really do what you want. You try copying and pasting a couple but they are not really working, you have no idea why, and its a mess on mobile.
Can anyone help me?
You try posting in a few Facebook Groups but they want access to the site. You don’t really know who these people are and whether you can trust them. So you try asking Squarespace but they tell you “We don’t support custom code. Have you tried posting in the Squarespace Forum?”.
You don’t have anyone to turn to so you feel super defeated and spend the next couple hours wallowing in self-doubt.
“I don’t have time for this!”
You consider telling the client that you can’t do what they want, which means you’ve underdelivered on your promise and you’re costing them more money by having to hire another professional.
You think about just shutting down your entire business and running away from the Web Design Life because it’s just not turning out how you thought it would be.
You make yourself a coffee, calm down, and go back to steps 2 through 4.
And repeat. And again. And again.
Of course, you do eventually (FINALLY) figure it out, and the website looks great.
But you’ve spent 10x as long on it as you budgeted for and felt frustrated and stressed the whole time.
The client gets their dream site, but you’ve seriously shortchanged yourself and put in way more hours than you ever did in your 9 - 5.
You find yourself thinking…
“I’ll never figure this out. All the time I waste “researching” is like 4 times the time I have to actually do it.”
“I am working way too hard to make this little. Why is this so easy for everyone else? What do they have that I don’t”
“Is it even possible to be a website designer and have some sort of work - life balance?”
There is a faster, simpler way to customize your client’s site and you don’t need to be a coding wizard to do it.
